Antibacterial Color Coated Steel is a functional color-coated steel with the ability to actively inhibit or kill bacteria and mold. Antibacterial Color Coated Steel – Process
Antibacterial color coated steel achieves its antibacterial function by adding highly effective and long-lasting antibacterial agents to the coating or topcoat.
Silver Ion Antibacterial
- Compounds containing silver ions (such as nano-silver, silver-loaded zirconium phosphate, etc.) are added to the coating of color-coated steel or pre-painted steel. Silver ions are effective against a variety of bacteria and molds, with stable and long-lasting antibacterial effects. Importantly, it is safe for human use, making it the most mainstream technology.
Photocatalytic Antibacterial Properties (e.g., Nano TiO₂)
- Nano TiO₂ antibacterial coating steel is produced by adding nano-antibacterial agents to coatings (polyester (PE), fluorocarbon (PVDF), silicon-modified polyester (SMP), or high-weather-resistant polyester (HDP), etc.). Nano-titanium dioxide not only decomposes bacteria and viruses but also possesses self-cleaning and organic pollutant decomposition functions.
Organic Antibacterial Agents
- These agents achieve antibacterial effects by disrupting bacterial cell membranes using organic compounds such as quaternary ammonium salts. However, due to their limited durability and volatility, organic antibacterial agents are not suitable for use in architectural color-coated steel sheets and are often used in short-term or disposable products.
Composite Antibacterial Properties
- In addition to the above antibacterial technologies, multiple antibacterial agents (such as silver ions and photocatalytic materials) can be combined and added to the base coating to achieve synergistic, broader-spectrum, and longer-lasting antibacterial effects.
