What is HDG Steel?
HDG stands for Hot Dip Galvanizing and is a common surface treatment for metals. HDG steel refers to metal materials treated with the hot-dip galvanizing process, which provides good corrosion resistance and has a service life of more than 20 years.

HDG process
Hot-dip galvanizing is a process whereby a steel substrate, usually cold-rolled or hot-rolled, is immersed in a zinc solution at a temperature of 400-500 degrees Celsius, which chemically reacts to form a protective layer of zinc alloy on the surface of the steel that protects the steel from water, oxygen, acids, and alkalis. The hot-dip galvanizing process produces a homogeneous, thick, and highly adherent zinc layer on galvanized steel and is one of the most cost-effective coating methods.
HDG Coating
Hot-dip galvanized steel is coated with an alloy of zinc and steel, with a coating thickness of 40-150 microns and a silvery-white glossy surface, with zinc blooms of varying sizes as the temperature and cooling rate change. When the galvanized steel coating is damaged, the zinc layer corrodes preferentially to form a dense oxide film (e.g. zinc oxide), which further prevents the corrosive media from coming into contact with the steel and enhances the electrochemical protection.
Applications of HDG Steel
HDG steel as a raw material is suitable for all applications where corrosion protection is required, especially for applications exposed to corrosive environments such as outdoors, humidity, salt spray, etc. It is one of the most cost-effective steel solutions for the construction and industrial sectors.

1. Construction
Hot-dip galvanized steel is widely used for structural steel beams, columns, panels, facades, balconies, window frames, doors, fences, railings, road barriers, and more.
2. Transportation
Galvanized steel can be used for power towers, communication towers, railroad tracks, road markings, signs, automobile chassis and bodies, trucks/vans, etc.
3. Energy and Pipelines
Hot-dip galvanized steel can be used for various pipeline systems, oil pipelines, gas pipelines, power transmission towers, power cables, distribution frames, wind turbines, and more.
4. Agricultural facilities
HDG products are used in greenhouse support structures, agricultural machinery, farm sheds, and more.
5. Light Industry
Manufacture of housings for home appliances, outdoor tables and chairs, and more.
Advantages of HDG Steel
HDG steel coils and structures are widely used in construction and industry because of their excellent corrosion resistance, mechanical properties, economy, and long-term protection against weather, humidity, and other corrosive environments.
- Corrosion resistance: The zinc-coated galvanized steel provides protection against corrosion, the thicker the zinc coating the better the corrosion resistance.
- Mechanical properties: Hardness, impact toughness, bending properties, tensile strength, yield strength, good elongation.
- Durability: Hot-dip galvanized coatings can protect for 7-50 years under different environmental conditions.
- Self-healing: In the event of minor damage to the galvanized layer, the zinc ions surrounding the zinc layer can repair themselves through an electrochemical reaction.
- Adaptability to extreme environments: Long-term stability in wet, acidic, and alkaline applications.
- Economical: Hot-dip galvanizing is a low-cost process that is more cost-effective than zinc-aluminum, zinc-aluminum-magnesium, and paint treatments.
- Suitable for mass production: Hot dip galvanizing is highly efficient and suitable for mass production, reducing production costs.
