What is PPGL Materials?

PPGL (Pre-Painted Galvalume Steel Coil), also known as Pre-Painted aluminum and galvanized steel coil, is usually supplied in coils and sheets and can be processed by bending, stamping, punching, forming, slitting, and profiling. PP means prepainted, and GL means galvanized steel, a composite metal material pre-painted based on GL coils.

PPGL Material Composition

The structure of PPGL typically consists of a steel substrate, an aluminized zinc layer, and an organic coating. The zinc-alumina layer, consisting of aluminum, zinc, and silicon, provides corrosion protection, while the organic coatings (e.g., polyester, fluorocarbon, silicone-modified polyester, high-weathering polyester, etc.) enhance weathering and aesthetics.

PPGL Material Features

PPGL material combines the corrosion resistance of zinc-aluminum sheet substrates with the decorative/functionality of coatings and is an upgrade to PPGI (pre-painted galvanized steel).

Superior Weather Resistance: The organic coating on the PPGL surface provides further protection against UV rays, acid rain, and pollutants.
Corrosion resistance: The aluminum in the zinc-aluminum-sheet substrate forms a dense oxide film that resists corrosion, while the zinc provides sacrificial anode protection for dual corrosion protection.
High-temperature adaptability: Long-term resistance to high temperatures up to 315°C, suitable for high-temperature industrial environments (e.g. chimneys, baking equipment shells).

  • Substrate pre-treatment: degreasing → pickling → passivation.
  • Aluminum-zinc plating process: hot-dip galvanizing of aluminum-zinc alloys.
  • Coating: Roller primer → topcoat → backcoat.
  • Curing and molding: Baking.
  • Further Processing: Curling into rolls or processing into different sizes of sheets and profiles as required.
  • Testing and Packaging: Surface effect, coating quality, coating adhesion, salt spray resistance, color difference testing.
