How are Zinc Spangles Formed on Galvanized Steel?
Zinc spangle only occurs on hot-dip galvanized steel. The selection of the zinc layer thickness, the zinc flow rate, and the cooling temperature during the hot-dip galvanizing process all contribute to the formation of irregular spangles on the surface of the steel. Similarly, the size of the zinc bloom can be adjusted by controlling the galvanizing temperature, the cooling rate, the surface condition of the steel, the composition of the galvanizing solution, and the immersion time of the steel.
Spangle in the Galvanized Steel
Currently, Wanzhi Group uses both electro-galvanized and hot-dip galvanized processes, with production ranges: thickness 0.15-6mm, width 600-1250mm, customized galvanized steel with or without zinc spangle when the thickness is less than 2.0mm, and with zinc spangle when the thickness is more than 3.0mm.
Zero Spangle Galvanized Steel
Zero spangle galvanized steel is smooth and even with no visible spangle on the surface. Zero spangles can be achieved by hot-dip galvanizing and electro-galvanizing, but the cost of this type of steel is higher and it is generally used in the automotive and home appliance industries, which require a high level of appearance. In addition, this steel has good adhesion and is a good base material for pre-painted steel.
Regular Spangle Galvanized Steel
Regular spangle galvanized steel is a relatively low-cost galvanized steel with a distinctive pattern or zinc crystals on the surface, and is one of the most common types of galvanized steel, produced by the hot-dip galvanizing process. Regular spangle GI steel coil is widely used in construction, decoration, household appliances, industry, agriculture, etc. When used as a substrate for the production of color-coated galvanized steel, a surface treatment is required to improve the adhesion of the paint.
Minimum Spangle Galvanized Steel
The thinner the zinc layer, the smaller the zinc bloom on the steel surface. Minimum Spangle Galvanized Steel has a small, uniform, relatively flat surface and is widely used in industrial applications. Because of the simplicity of the process and the thinness of the zinc layer, the cost is usually the lowest of the several types.

Spangle Galvanized Steel is aesthetically pleasing, durable, and has good corrosion resistance, and is a high-quality material for building facades, roofs, household appliance housings, steel structures, pipelines, and automobile bodies.
