What Are ZAM Steel Coils?
ZAM is the abbreviation for Zinc-Aluminum-Magnesium. ZAM steel coils are hot-dip steel products coated with high-corrosion-resistant Zn-Al-Mg alloy. The coating is mainly composed of zinc, along with 11% aluminum, 3% magnesium and trace silicon. Zinc delivers basic corrosion resistance, aluminum improves weather- and oxidation resistance, and magnesium further enhances anti-rust performance. Higher contents of aluminum and magnesium bring better corrosion protection. Its anti-corrosion capability is 10 to 20 times stronger than that of regular galvanized and galvalume steel, making it ideal for saline, alkaline and humid areas.
Production Process of ZAM Steel Coils
- Substrate Preparation: Uncoil, clean and inspect cold/hot-rolled steel substrate to remove surface impurities.
- Surface Pretreatment: Degrease, pickle and dry to ensure a clean, active surface.
- High-temperature Annealing: Heat the steel strip to improve ductility and coating adhesion.
- Hot-dip Zn-Al-Mg Coating: Immerse the strip into molten Zn-Al-Mg alloy bath for uniform coating.
- Coating Thickness Control: Use air/nitrogen knives to adjust coating weight evenly.
- Rapid Cooling: Cool the strip quickly to solidify the dense alloy layer.
- Surface Post-treatment: Apply chromium-free passivation, oiling or filming to enhance corrosion resistance and processability.
- Final Inspection & Recoiling: Check surface quality and mechanical properties, then recoal into finished ZAM coils.
